The Aconcagua Express Mission. AE’s goal is to share our passion for safe mountaineering and trekking and to interact with different cultures from around the world and to promote the enrichment, growth and self realization that is experienced in the mountains and in natural environments. Here at AE we take pride in the relationships that we foster with all of our employees. We want our guides, arrearos, cooks and everyone working with us to feel like they have a place within our company from year to year. We have a deep and respectful relationship with our muleteers and their families. As our staff grows our company will also grow. Our commitment is to promote the well-being and development of every employee. Our employees feel like they are part of a family here. We work well together. Our family brings people together from many different cultures. AE strives to cultivate a learning environment, a place to share the simple things that we can all learn from the mountains, such as; teamwork, respect for the land, and to bring out the best in everybody. We have many employees from the northern and southern hemispheres. We have different things that we are teaching each other. We invite you to join us in some of our adventures. We’ll learn from you and you can learn from us. Cheers, the AE staff Letter from the Director. The end of this past season is the beginning of the next! Thanks to our Guide Staff we had an extremely safe and successful 2004-2005 climbing season on Aconcagua, We primarily used the Guanacos & traverse route, the most unique, safe and successful route up the mountain in our opinion. Also, thanks to our clients who chose us to guide them on this pristine and beautiful route that brought many of them to the highest point of this continent, thus sharing a great moment with our arrieros, guides and assistants. With February 2005 behind us, together now with our last departure, we review several positive aspects of our season; again we really liked the lower elevation of our base camp and the low vertical rise between our camps for acclimatization reasons, the beautiful mountain scenery and wildlife that we encountered. Also, the silence that accompanied all of our expeditions, and those starry nights that covered us while we slept, the good acclimatization program that brought all of our groups to our highest camp well rested and strong before attempting the summit. Thanks to these and many other reasons we feel good about the outcome of this season and are excited to offer the Guanacos route again next year as our primary route of ascension to the top of South America. For the following season we will be offering several additions to our Guanacos expeditions. Such as, emergency caches of O2 bottles at all of our high camps, porters, for the common gear for the very heavy, and hard on the body, descent down to Plaza de Mulas at the end of our trip. We will be sporting a permanent base camp, complete with professional cook doubling as our base camp manager who will be able to offer a variety of services to our expeditions high up on the mountain. This will be a first for any company on this route. The before and after dinners, at some of the best restaurants that Mendoza has to offer, will also be included in next years price. These are just a few of the changes we are making for the upcoming season. In order to keep this route clean and pristine we tried several things this year. The most effective was using the “Wag Bags” that our friends from Jackson Hole Mountain Guides brought us from the Tetons for the removal of all solid waste from high camp. We are working hard to make this a mandatory procedure to be implemented for the upcoming climbing season. Aconcagua-Express has and will continue to play a large role in keeping Aconcagua clean. Finally, for the approaching season we are offering, together with the Guanacos route, several other alternative ways to climb Aconcagua, such as the acclimatization program on El Plomo peak in the Chilean Andes, as well the Volcano Maipo on the Argentinean side with the beautiful Laguna Del Diamante at its base. These combos will offer an enriching and successful alternative to those climbers not wanting to acclimatize in the traditional manner on Aconcagua. Also, for those interested in climbing the Polish Glacier, we are setting up 2 departures to be guided by some the most experienced guides on Aconcagua, coming from our sister company, Jackson Hole Mountain Guides. I send my warmest regards to those who have shared our passion this past season and I welcome those who are planning to share the upcoming season with Aconcagua Express in the central Andes. Sincerely, Joaquin Oyarzun B - Director |
